Ketchikan
Let's talk ferry some more. We boarded the ferry in Juneau and traveled on-board for 24 hours.
Sometimes you front in and sometimes you must back up after driving down the ramp. This ferry we had to back in. Les had about 18 inches clearance, not a lot for a rig the size or ours.
I'm not used to driving Les' truck so it was tricky but the crew who help are masters at this. There are about 5 people assigned to the loading and unloading of the vehicles, sometimes, because of the weird hours, the people change and they have their own ways. All you can do it be patient and follow directions well.
This is our luxurious spacious cabin (not) but it was perfectly comfortable. There was a nice shower, toilet(that flushes) a sink, a tiny closet and the two bunk beds. You can see the ladder for the top bunk in the picture, all kinds of excitement for Les to use that in the middle of the night!
Ketchikan is the totem pole capitol of the world.
So...............there ya go.
At first we hated this RV Park, the spaces were tight. The internet was intermittent, and the water pressure was not good. We did have nice neighbors, full timers that also spend time in Arizona and Texas.
But, the marina was very beautiful and we saw humpback whales right from shore and a huge sea lion they named Brutus, several eagles and some seals. There was a ton of fisherman going out every day, and it was fun to go watch them come back in late in the afternoon and see how they did. Mostly silvers, some rockfish, and an occasional halibut. Most of the fisherman knew each other and were competing, it was hilarious to listen to them at the end of the day. The old adage about "fish stories" has nothing on this group.
We went walking 2 days in a row and the hill on this road made a very good workout.
There is also a live (not streaming) webcam. Our daughter took this picture of us.
This is the view from the top of the deck, really nice.
The very last night the sun came out and it was stunningly beautiful. Too bad bad it rains 300 days a year here. If it was like this all the time you wouldn't be able to get near the place.
Each evening we'd drive downtown and have a drink overlooking the cruise ship docks. You all know we love cruise ships.
