Ferry continued...................
Okay, so the ferry was good. Nancy drove the truck on and did okay. We couldn't take pictures getting on because we were busy driving and following directions.I went first in the truck so I ran to an upper deck and took pictures of Les driving the RV onto the ferry.
This was the easy part. Once inside the ferry, it was a 3 point turn and then backing into a very narrow lane between a wall and several other RV's. About a foot of clearance on either side. The ferry crew is there to help, and get pretty aggravated if you don't follow their directions 100%. One of them walks along with you and gives you directions while yelling at the 3 other crew members who are on either side and behind the vehicle. A little stressful to say the least.
A good view from the top. Two air conditioners, a satellite dome, the sky light over the shower and a couple of vent fans.
We now have very dark nights, the midnight sun has gone. Turns out it never really bothered us to have it stay light so late.
The ferry had 2 decks of cabins. We didn't have a cabin for this 4 hour ride so we sat in the cafe where we read books and when we got too tired listened to an audio book. The only real complaint about the ferry experience is that the State of Alaska, in their infinite wisdom and budget cutting, has permanently closed all the cocktail lounges on the ferries. What a stupid decision- who doesn't make money selling alcohol?
We arrived in Juneau at 2am, drove off the ferry and found our way in the dark and rain to the RV park, a 6 mile trip. Nancy drove the truck, we won't hook the tow gear up again until we get to Prince Rupert and get done with all the ferries. We were met by the nicest gal ever who drove her truck in her night gown to the sight and with the lights shining on our spot helped us back in.
Needless to say we slept in.
2 more ferry rides in our future, the next one will be a 23 hour ride.
