Dawson Creek to Ft Nelson and the big Crack

Today we had a long drive of 281 miles. The elevation changes were dramatic as we made out way through the Northern Rockies. Lots of 6-8% grades. Les did a great job of course, but it isn't a relaxing day of driving.

We caught a rock from an on coming truck and got a large crack in the windshield.

What a shock, it sounded like a gun shot. When we pulled into Ft. Nelson we jumped in the truck and found a glass repair company to come right out to the RV park and put as much resin in that crack as possible. The guy couldn't have been nicer and while he was there our neighbor in the park needed a repair too.

We spoke with some others in the park and one 5th wheel completely lost a side window and another Subaru on the road lost their back window. I might add we were NOT in a construction zone. This was just a random rock and seriously bad luck on our part. The heavy construction work and road repairs are ahead of us still, so we will try to nurse the windshield through, but we do expect more damage. The only goal we have with this is to make it back to the lower 48 before we have to replace it.

However, once the crack was patched up we had a lovely drink and appetizer at the park Bar. How great is that? All RV parks should have a restaurant and bar.

We have prepared the headlights of the coach for the upcoming construction. We took pieces of the old pool cover (really heavy bubble wrap) cut them to size and taped the heck out of them to keep the headlights covered. The front of the F-150 is also covered with a vinyl cover, and pool cover fit to the windshield.
